Champions Bowl Preview

Right after the end of the domestic season, the Vienna Constables will travel to Spain to compete once again in this year's Champions Bowl, which is the 10th edition. Both, the Ladies' and the Men's team, will fight for honour and glory in Cambrils (about 90km south of Barcelona) from Friday (18th Oct.) to Sunday (20th Oct.).

The men will kick things off on Friday at 9:00 am against the Baker Street Buttonhookers from London, England. These two teams met last year in the consolitation round and the Cons came out victorious, but the Buttonhookers motivation wasn't on the top end so there will be definately a tough game this time around as the English team has good and atheltic players.

In their second game the Constables Men will have to face a new team at the Champions Bowl, the OPM Knights Nove Mesto, coming from Slovenia. On paper the Cons appear to be favourtites, but as there are no easy games at this competition, they surely will have to be fully focused to come up with a win.

Last game of the day is going to bring a great match against last year's finalist Sollerod Gold Diggers. The Danes are one of the top teams in Europe, which is competing on the highest level for years now. Not only will the Constables need their best performance here, but probably also a bit of luck, if they want to win this one.

After the first day every team finishes in its group of four and will be drawn to another group of four according to their position (e.g. you finish 2nd on Friday, you'll play a 1st, 3rd & 4th from the other three groups on Saturday). So there isn't everything lost, if you start slowly, but it definately doesn't get easier.

The Ladies do play in Round Robin format of five teams, which means four group games. Three of those are played on Friday, one more Saturday morning. First opponent are the Catania Elephants from Italy. The Cons Ladies did beat them in last years Bronze Medal game if memory serves us right. So a close game can be expceted this time as well.

Then an English doubleheader is following with the Hyde Park Renegades first and the Coventry Cougars second. The Cons do embrace the chance to face off with the English girls once again to find the better end this year. In Saturday morning a well known rival from Autria awaits. The DeLaSalle Saints Ladies did win their last encounter, but the Cons are anxious to fight back this time.

Both teams will show up with changes on their roster compared to last year's adventure. Every player is already excited to play against the best and will hopefully rise to the occasion.
